SecureEdit — encrypted text editor, secure, aes compatible

Waiting for bottom to come, as per my last years entry (by the way, nothing has changed since then — the bottom is not in … yet) I was making some cleaning with my wallets, keys and passwords. It struct me that besides tools like KeePassX or other KeyStore apps there is no easy and straightforward tool to store encrypted text notes. What I really wanted was an app similar to the most simple text editor, where I can write/edit my notes and have them by default encrypted so no third party can access them.

Made a small research, there are many professional tools, including command line opensslfor techno bros. However, for a regular crypto user there is no easy to use alternative that is modern and still maintained — most that I googled out are old, outdated and no longer maintained.

Finally I created a small, open source, with public source code, app called SecureEdit. It is fully transparent, allows to write/edit your secure notes keeping them secure all the time. What’s best is the fact, that it produces fully compatible encrypted files, that you can open using any other encryption/decryption tools.

I decided to use it to store my crypto belonging such as:

  • public wallet addresses
  • private keys
  • passwords to my bitcoin nodes

Now having all my key and core assets secured and cleaned I’m ready, sitting at the sidelines and waiting to enter the market when time comes.

You can give it a try too. Highly recommended usable tool.
